Introduction to Fourth Grade Staff:

My name is Becky Cowan.  I have been teaching at West Elementary for 22 years.  Before teaching at West, I taught for two years at a Catholic school in Junction City while I earned my Masters Degree in Reading from Kansas State University.  Now I teach math and really love it! 

 

My name is Cathy Woodyard.  As a non-traditional student, I earned my bachelor’s degree from K-State in December of 1993.  USD 320 hired me as a fifth grade teacher in August of 1994.  For the first three years I taught all subjects.  In 1997 I began teaching 5th grade math, science and social studies, teaming with Mike Wiley the first year.   In 2000, I earned my master’s degree in technology from K-State.

 

My name is Amanda Beason.  I have been teaching 4th grade in Wamego since 2007.  I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary and Middle-Level Education from Kansas State University.  I teach 4th grade language arts (reading, writing, and spelling).

 

My name is Lori Rice. I have been teaching at USD 320 since 1997. I previously taught kindergarten and first grade at Central Elementary. I graduated from Kansas State University with a BS in Elementary Education and a BS in Early Childhood Education in 1996. My classroom is self-contained.

 

My name is Samantha Vargas.  I graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in Elementary Education in May of 2010.  I am married and have two children, Emma who is four, and Logan who is two.  I am expecting another boy in later September.  My husband is finishing his civil engineering degree at K-State.  In my spare time, I like to take my children to the park and spend time with family and friends. I am really excited about this school year, and I look forward to making each child successful!
